Build A Standard Square Washer Toss Game

Things you’ll need:

2 – 8ft 2x4’s
1 – ¾ or ½ inch sheet of plywood
1 – 7 inch piece of PVC pipe – either 4 or 6 inch inner diameter.
6 – 2 inch or 2 ½ inch flat washers.
Saw
2 ½ inch wood screws & screwdriver
Glue

Optional things:

2 - Latches
Carpet
Rope
Stapler
Mitre Saw
Paint or stain

A) Build the boxes: (17” x 17” game)

Cut the sheet of plywood to 17 inches long x 17 inches wide.
Cut the 2x4’s into 8 pieces - 4 pieces 17 inches long and 4 pieces 14 inches long.
Put two 17 inch pieces and two 14 inch pieces in a square, the two 17 inch pieces the same way and the 14 inch pieces the same way.
Attach the pieces together using screws, putting 2 screws in each side.
Attach the square to the plywood using screws on the bottom. Use at least 3 per side. Make sure the box fits on top the plywood.
Repeat for second box.

Optional – If you want to put carpet on the bottom, cut your carpet to match the size of the plywood and glue it down before you attach the square to the bottom piece of plywood.

B) Build the center piece:

Cut PVC pipe into 3 ½ inch pieces.
Attach one PVC pipe to the center of each box using screws from underneath. Use glue for extra strength on the inside and outside of the PVC pipe and the box for extra strength.

C) Washers

Get 6 either 2 inch or 2 ½ inch washers with ¾ inner diameters. You can either paint them 2 different colors, or buy steel and brass ones.

D) Latches

To be able to keep game closed, you can attach latches to both sides of the boxes. Screws should come in the packet of latches you buy. Attach one end of the latch on one box and the other half on the other box.

E) Rope Handle

Cut enough rope to make it comfortable for you to carry. Don’t use rope that is too thin, it will dig in your hand. You can use an industrial staple gun and staple both ends of the rope to the side of the box (put rope handles on both boxes).

F) Stain or paint

You can stain or paint your boxes if you want. Stain will help keep your game in better shape and to last longer. Painting will make it look nice, but the washer’s chip away at the paint.

Square Washers Box Plans

Materials:

4 pieces of cut 2x4 (14½” long)*
1 piece of cut ¾” thick plywood (16x16)*
8 wood screws (3” long)*
4 wood screws (1¾” long)*
1 PVC pipe 4” diameter (cut to 3¾” long)*
4 L Brackets (1” with single hole)*
4 #8 ¾” nuts & bolts
4 wood screws (¾” long)
1 piece of carpet (13x13 with center hole)
Screw Driver
Saw
Drill with #8 size bit
staple gun

Directions:

Assemble the 2x4’s into a square frame (use 3” wood screws)
Attach the 16x16 piece of plywood to the frame of 2x4’s (use 1¾” wood screws)
Drill 4 holes in the PVC for the L Brackets (use L Brackets to measure hole placement)
Attach L Brackets to PVC (use #8 ¾” nuts & bolts)
Cut carpet to 13x13 with center hole (use PVC to measure center hole)
Attach PVC to inside of box (use ¾” wood screws, use carpet to measure placement of PVC)
Insert carpet over PVC and staple down
